Still on my homesick high and embroidering like mad so I have something to work on while I listen to Pimsleur audio tapes. I finished Kelli’s (she took the picture! A lovely view of Park City) embroidery last night—I feel like a preschool student who colored the letter S on a worksheet considering my poor drawing and crooked stitching—but damnit I am proud of it! I can look at certain stitches and recall what Japanese words i learned there—like over in the thistles i was learning numbers—7, 8 and 17 and 18, 7,000 and 8,000 etc.—how to ask the time, shopping and handling money. I think i have found what makes me feel fulfilled and in the psychological flow where I lose sense of time and feel legitimately excited about working—I was awake until well past midnight which has been a first since I’ve been here (delayed jetlag, I think…falling around 10 and rising around 4). It is nice to listen and have something to do that isn’t so mind numbing—like being stoned or practicing characters or doing the dishes, etc. AND I don’t have to worry about words and the arrangement of them—it is a nice break from the script in my head. I am excited to start something new.
